Helga’s Folly

Helga’s Folly brings a taste of whimsy and flamboyance to a city that is deeply entrenched in history and traditional culture. The property functions as a restaurant and hotel, but also serves as an unofficial art gallery. Madame Helga, the proprietress of the place, has crammed every wall, nook and cranny with art, photographs, sculptures and objects, some of them rather bizarre!

The house was built in the 1930s by Helga’s mother and functioned as a family home. However, today it looks nothing like a home occupied by a family, but rather like the abode of a flamboyant and eccentric character straight out of a magical world. A visit to the Folly is a true treat for the senses, and you are unlikely to see anything like it anywhere else in Kandy.

Take note that you cannot wander around for free. You will be required to pay a minimal entrance fee or purchase a beverage at the restaurant.
