The city of Negombo and its surrounding areas possess a number of attractions that are suitable for the whole family. You would most likely spend a couple of days in the city, either on your way into the country, or as the last stop of your journey.
Negombo is commonly referred to as ‘Little Rome’ due to the large number of Catholic churches that are located in the city. A number of neo-classical structures, such as the St. Mary’s Church are well worth a visit.
The Negombo Lagoon is a picturesque location and a serene boat tour is a great way to experience it. A boat ride on the lagoon will allow you to see mangroves, monkeys, birds and some fish species as well.
Negombo has a number of interesting cafes and restaurants that are ideal for the whole family. Alternatively, you could head to one of the many beach resorts that serve delicious international buffets. The kids could also use the pool at these resorts for a small fee.
Although the ocean in Negombo isn’t ideal for swimming, the family can spend some time on the wide stretch of beach here. The kids will certainly improve their sandcastle building skills, while mom and dad work on their tan!
