Udawattekele Forest Reserve

The Udawattekele Forest Reserve is a hidden gem located in the middle of the city of Kandy. Containing an eclectic mix of flora and fauna, the forest reserve is a wonderful place to trek and enjoy the natural beauty of Sri Lanka.

It’s a haven for many species of flora and fauna, especially endemic avifauna, which attracts bird watchers from around the world. The reserve also attracts a number of cultural aficionados, since it is the home of a number of hermitages, where many notable monks took abode. These caves are well hidden and are often found by traversing through rough terrain.

Make sure you are well equipped with the necessary equipment and clothing, since it can get pretty difficult as you go deeper inside the reserve.
